|The New Page series is my most recent shoot. It was kind of unplanned, ish. There is an old factory in my town, it was a big paper mill. It had MANY people working there, and the company did a very money selfish thing that eventually backfired and led to the unemployment of all the workers and the eventual selling of the company to a group that instead of accepting the first offer (which would have allowed all the workers to stay hired and continue it as a paper mill) it was sold to a later offer, who's buyers would demolish this very NICE and updated mill and turn it into housing. Right now it is just in the demolishing stage and was half broken and barren all winter. It broke my heart at first. I couldn't even drive past that street (which is very near to my home) for many many months, but as it got closer and closer to summer I felt that I needed to honour what was left of the paper mill (and our town is known for it's paper. We are the "Kimberly Papermakers" and now we no longer have any more mills.) So I went and swallowed the lump in my throat and took pictures with what will never been seen again come this summer. I could feel so much in that rubble...... so much emotion. I was sad that I couldn't (legally) go onto the property. But there were some diggers in the parking lot that I snuck pictures with. So, yeah. Anyway. |
This is my tribute to the last of the Kimberly Paper mills.
(this photo is named after the Pink Floyd song if anyone was wondering)
